刘竹梅，1956年生于四川绵竹。自幼爱好绘画。1980年以来，作品1 百余幅在《人民日报》、《中国青年报》、《光明日报》、《中国文明 报》、《新民晚报》、《文艺报》、《四川日报》、《美术》杂志、《年画艺术》、香港《中国旅游》等报刊杂志刊登。作品收入《四川中国画精品选》、《中国国画百人佳作选》、《世纪之交中国女性绘画走势》。
1981年作品《看谁最干净》获全国第二届青年美展三等奖，并由中国展览公司送往美、法、日、上渥尔特、马里、香港等国家和地区展出。
1982年撰写绵竹年画老艺人传。作品《玲珑 手》由四川美术出版社出版。
1983年-1984年在沈阳鲁迅美术学院版画系学习。
1985年-1987年在地方 美术学院民间美术系学习。
1988年作品《赶场》选入第四届全国年画展。作品《平安不足 》由四川美术出版社出版。
1989年作品《黄杨扁担》、《康定情歌》、《我的同学》选入第七届全国美术作品展展出，获四川省优秀作家奖。
1990年作品《赶场》、《猴子与货郎》、《回娘家》、《柜中缘》被法国郭安博物馆收藏。
1991年作品《5 月端阳》由天津年画艺术刊登。作品《担秧苗》参加四川-山东潍坊年画联展。
1992年在地方 美术学院美术馆举办个人画展。获得好评。
1993年作品《节气歌》组画获第5 届全国年画展三等奖。十二幅作品入选在日本扎幌举办的“中国四川女画家13人展”、作品《黄杨扁担》获佳作奖。
1994年参加全国第三届民间美术研讨会。论文获优秀奖。
1995年作品及传记选入全国妇联编著的大型画册《中华巾帼》。作品参加世界银行在美国为世界妇女大会举办的“世界女艺术家作品展”，并选入画册，十幅作品参加在日本札幌举办的“中国四川女画家十三人展”作品《绣花女》获优秀奖。
1996年应邀在南京大学举办个人画展。
1997年作品《女大当嫁》组画特约在香港《中国旅游》（中英文版）刊登。论文《邱婆婆与绵竹年画》入选全国第四届民间美术研讨会。
1998年中国青年出版社《小说》杂志全年刊载《川妹子》等12幅作品。
1999年作品《丰收舞》入选全国第八届“群星奖”。获四川省三等奖。
2000年作品《好日子》、《川妹子》组画之1 《割草女》入选全国第六届年画展。现为中国美术家协会会员、中国民间美术学会会员、四川美术家协会民族、民间美术工艺委员会委员。
